Quarantine Skincare Tips

With the uncertainty of COVID-19 among us, spas and salons are mandated to close for public
safety. People are sheltering at home, but when the weather is nice out, we get to enjoy the
sun and warmth. With the privilege of being outside, our skin is also facing environmental
threats of UV rays and pollution. Make sure to keep up with your skincare and “wow” your
esthetician next time you come in to see him or her! Here are 6-ish easy ways to keep your skin
clear, glowing, and protected!

1 – Wash your face every night! If you have oily skin, be sure you wash it in the morning too.
Cleanse your face with an actual cleanser, not just a disposable wipe. If you’re wearing makeup,
I would recommend double cleansing. Which means, start with an oil based cleanser to help
break down all the makeup. Rinse, then cleanse again, using a water based cleanser, this will
help wash away any residue and impurities.

1.5 – Exfoliate every other day with a gentle scrub to slough off dead skin and deep clean your
pores.

2 – Tone. Toning after washing your face will help restore the PH of your skin. The natural PH
of your skin is 5-5.5, so more on the acidic side. The acidity helps combat bacteria that causes
acne and skin irritations. So, toning will help restore that wonderful acid mantel!

2.5 – Treat your skin to a nice sheet mask at least once a week! Or if you are oily/acneic try a
clay or sulfur mask. Consult with your esthetician to know what’s best for you.

3 – The first layer of product to go on the skin is your treatment product. Examples of treatment
products could be, serums, growth factors, retinols for acne (or lines and wrinkles), or if you’re
using hydroquinone for pigmentation. However….retinols and hydroquinone should be avoided
for daytime use. Only apply these products in the evening as it will cause your skin to be very
sun sensitive. For daytime routine, skip to step 4.

4 – Vitamin C is a must! It’s an amazing antioxidant for your skin! Just imagine, vitamin C is like
Pac-man chomping away at all the free radicals that land on your face all day long!

5 – Seal in all this goodness with an amazing moisturizer that’s right for your skin type! When
your skin is not adequately moisturized, it will compensate by producing oils that could cause
your pores to clog…leading to breakouts and white heads. Keep in mind too, that different
seasons will likely require a different moisturizer.

6 – Last but not least…SUNSCREEN! This is a crucial step in your daytime routine. Always
wear sunscreen with an spf of 30 or greater. It’s not just the UVA and UVB rays from the sun
that we have to worry about. With being quarantined, we are all spending more time in front of
a screen. The rays we get from screens are called HEV (High Energy Visible) light, which can be equally as damaging as UVA and UVB! So, ladies and gentleman, slather on that sun
protection!!

Bonus tip! Keep up with the water consumption and take a daily fish oil supplement! Hydration
from within will help plump your skin while fish oil will help your skin glow and your hair shine!!
